CarryBot includes features for automating logistics in micro-fulfillment centers, says OrionStar Robotics.

OrionStar Robotics this week released its latest mobile robot designed for micro-fulfillment centers. It said that CarryBot is engineered to meet the efficiency demands of these compact logistics environments.

Often located in urban areas or close to consumers, micro-fulfillment centers (MFCs) are designed to minimize delivery times and enhance customer satisfaction. The new autonomous mobile robot (AMR) offers versatile transport capabilities, adaptability, and safety features suitable for MFCs, said OrionStar.

The Beijing-based company added that its robots within a scalable fleet can communicate with one other at intersections. This feature is intended to reduce interactions and improve the speed of execution for delivery missions.


OrionStar touts CarryBot features

CarryBot has a compact form factor — 151 x 52.5 x 138 cm (59.4 x 20.6 x 54.3 in.) — allowing it to navigate MFC aisles as narrow as 65 cm (25.5 in.), said OrionStar Robotics.

The new system is available in three configurations to handle a variety of tasks. CarryBot 1 is intended for moving stackable totes and boxes, while CarryBot 2 is equipped with reconfigurable shelves for transporting smaller items.

CarryBot 3, on the other hand, is designed to move carts, streamlining operations in MFCs. The maximum load for all configurations is 100 kg (220.5 lb.), freeing workers from pushing heavy carts, reducing walking time, and increasing productivity, said OrionStar.

An optional “summon button” enables operators to easily call a CarryBot to come to a specific loading station, the company added. Once a robot has received its payload, a user can define the destination for its next mission with an onboard screen.

With this simple setup, new facilities can quickly deploy CarryBot so it can begin operations, according to OrionStar.

Key features of CarryBot include:

  • Multifunctional transport attachments: These can handle various material needs, boosting productivity by two to three times, OrionStar claimed.
  • Flexible scenario adaptability: Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM+) technology ensures quick adaptation to layout changes without facility modifications.
  • 360° safety protection: The robot is equipped with lidar, depth cameras, collision protection sensors, and emergency stop buttons for safe operation.

Founded in 2016, OrionStar Robotics said it has deployed more than 60,000 robots in over 60 countries.
