As businesses face increasing pressure to meet consumer expectations for rapid delivery, new technologies are coming to their aid. AutoStore AS today unveiled its latest innovations for high-throughput fulfillment.

New offerings from the automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) provider include a robotic piece-picking system, an advanced workstation, and a software suite designed for peak operational performance.

AutoStore also said its expanded Pio product range enhances accessibility to automation, while a new service tower simplifies maintenance to maximize uptime.

“AutoStore continues to lead the industry by driving innovation that enhances customer value and operational efficiency,” stated Mats Hovland Vikse, CEO of AutoStore. “As companies face increasing demands for speed and efficiency, AutoStore remains committed to delivering transformative solutions that empower our customers, streamline fulfillment, and accelerate digital transformation.”

“Last fall, I committed to driving faster and more disruptive innovations as part of AutoStore’s Product 2.0 journey,” added Parth Joshi, chief product officer of AutoStore. “Today’s unveiling of our latest releases underscores our dedication to customer-centricity, empowering businesses to boost productivity and reduce costs through advanced automation.” “

“I’m especially proud of CarouselAI, which leverages automation and AI to better serve our customers, along with a new world-class Essentials Software Package that supports every stage of the customer journey—from pre-sales to system operations and analytics,” he said.

Innovations include robot picking and more

AutoStore described its updated and new offerings:

CarouselAI is AutoStore’s first artificial intelligence-powered robotic piece-picking solution, developed with Berkshire Grey, a leader in robotics. It automates the labor-intensive order-picking process, achieving 99.5% accuracy, top-tier SKU coverage, and 24/7 operation – boosting fulfillment efficiency.

AutoStore claimed that CarouselAI offers a fast return on investment (ROI) for retailers scaling automation. Existing customers can use CarouselAI Upgrade to retrofit from CarouselPort 4.0 without major infrastructure changes.

“It was developed specifically for AutoStore ports and is integrated into the complete cube,” Joshi told Automated Warehouse. “It’s attractive to customers in terms of price, reliability, accuracy, and integration.”

CarouselAI will be running at Booth N7500 at ProMAT this month in Chicago. Supported by AutoStore’s partner network, CarouselAI and its upgrade will be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and North America in summer 2025.

VersaPort is intended to improve warehouse efficiency and safety. AutoStore said it can flexibly adapt to dynamic workflows without mechanical changes.

“This was requested by our customers in the past for safety and throughput, said Joshi.

Whether used solo or in tandem, VersaPort supports diverse setups, from individual product induction to complex picking workflows, said the company. Warehouse management software (WMS) integration enables switching between inbound and outbound tasks with a click, it said.

Designed for scalability and future-proof fulfillment strategies, VersaPort meets AutoStore’s strict safety standards. It launches in Europe and North America in summer 2025, with Asia-Pacific following by year’s end.

The Essentials Software Package empowers AutoStore customers to optimize system performance at every stage of their automation journey. This suite extends beyond initial design and integration, offering advanced routing algorithms, real-time analytics, and intelligent reporting for continuous improvement.

“It has three buckets for software,” explained Joshi. “The first is tools to design, simulate, and sell our products, which are used all over the world. We believe we have the best in class.”

“The second is the operation of the cube — router and cube-control software — which gets better every quarter,” he added.

“The third includes data analytics and fleet management,” Joshi said. “We constantly get data from the majority of our 1,600 sites to make our products better. We’ll put out four releases this year for firmware and algorithms, getting faster and more reliable.”

AutoStore added that its modular design and flexibility can simplify deployment and fit a broad range of use cases. The Essentials Software Package further streamlines the process, enabling businesses to make faster, more informed decisions, the company asserted.

“Its scalable, adaptable approach ensures businesses stay agile as operations evolve,” said AutoStore.

Starting today, March 4, all new AutoStore customers will get this built-in software bundle (see video below).

The Expanded Pio product range, P200, P400, and P600, consists of standardized, plug-and-play products. The compact system includes a few robots and can fit into smaller spaces.

Pio’s app is designed to be intuitive for day-to-day operations and to easily integrate with existing workflows, said AutoStore.

In addition, a flexible subscription model gives businesses access to cutting-edge automation without heavy upfront investments, the company said. The Pio products are available through selected AutoStore partners.

“It is robotics as a service [RaaS]. The subscription model is for those just getting into robotics,” Joshi said. “It’s not a full AutoScale system, but for easier deployment by smaller customers.”

The New Service Tower eliminates the need for costly mezzanine-level service areas by enabling robot transport via lift and personnel access via stairs within the AutoStore cube storage system.

“People have asked for more entry points to the grid,” noted Joshi.

Designed to maximize storage capacity and reduce infrastructure costs, the Service Tower makes automation more accessible for small sites while providing an efficient emergency-access option for high-throughput facilities.

“By lowering the total cost of ownership and simplifying maintenance, this innovation reshapes warehouse efficiency,” said AutoStore. The service tower is now available in Europe and North America, with Asia-Pacific rollout by late 2025.

AutoStore plans regular releases

AutoStore said it uses advanced software to automate and orchestrate order fulfillment. The Nedre Vats, Norway-based company said it has more than 1,600 systems in nearly 60 countries. Its U.S. headquarters are in Salem, N.H.

As part of AutoStore’s Product 2.0 strategy, the company is working to innovate more rapidly and make regular product announcements.

“We’ve changed internal processes,” Joshi told Automated Warehouse. “We’ve added talent and skills in software, AI, hardware, and product management.”

“We’ve recently announced frozen storage and a motorized service vehicle, which are now available,” he said. “Last fall, we announced a pilot, but since then, we’ve already done two sales, which are being installed in Europe as we speak. A loot of grocers and food producers have been very interested, and we’re building a pipeline.”
