KUKA widens KMP line of mobile robots for easier material handling

KUKA Robotics plans to unveil its compact KMP 250P AMR at MODEX 2026.

While some industrial automation providers did not have a big presence at Manifest last week, some are already looking ahead to MODEX. KUKA Robotics said it plans to show its autonomous mobile robots, or AMRs, in Atlanta. The company’s exhibit will include the debut of its KMP 250P AMR.

KUKA added that its AMRs are designed for easy integration and that its AMRs can simplify material handling and improve speed, flexibility, and efficiency.

The portfolio of KUKA includes industrial robots, AMRs, controllers, software, and cloud-based digital services. The Augsburg, Germany-based company acquired expertise with Reis Robotics, Alema Automation, and Swisslog before it was itself acquired by China’s Midea Group in 2016.

KUKA serves industries such as automotive with a focus on e-mobility and battery, electronics, metal and plastic, consumer goods, food, e-commerce, retail, and healthcare. It reported sales of around €3.7 billion ($4.3 billion U.S.) and has about 15,000 employees.

KMP robots are compact, can change navigation methods

The KMP 250P will join KUKA’s lineup of AMRs. The company described the KMP 250P as a compact, highly maneuverable model designed for flexible deployment. Differential drive technology makes the robot very maneuverable, and each unit can lift a 250-kg (1,146.5-lb.) load, according to KUKA.

A conductive charging station and optional inductive charging systems ensure continuous operation with minimal interruption, the company added. It also touted safety features so that the KMP 250P can operate alongside people, including 3D cameras and laser scanners. These technologies enable reliable obstacle detection while maintaining efficient material transport throughout the facility.

KUKA added that its KMP 600P is a compact robot that can transport up to 600 kg (1,322.7 lb.) and is suitable for production environments with limited space. It can improve storage processes, increase the flexibility of assembly lines, and make material flow more efficient in complex industrial environments, claimed the company.

With its differential drive technology, the KMP 600P can move forward and backward in addition to rotating in place and rounding curves with a defined radius. The AMR can use SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) navigation, with an optional QR-code and line-following navigation system for autonomous guided vehicle (AGV) mode.

The new feature, allowing all KMPs to switch between AGV and AMR movement, adds flexibility in rapidly changing environments, said KUKA.

Two integrated 3D cameras enable obstacle detection and avoidance, eliminating the need for safety fencing and allowing safe operation alongside people while moving in any direction. An IP54-rated design protects the platform from dust, water spray and other harsh industrial conditions.

Heavy-duty AMRs built for ease of integration, safety

The KMP 1500P supports transportation and logistics processes with a 60 mm (2.3 in.) lift stroke, precision positioning, and a payload capacity of up to 1.5 tons. Using built-in identification technology and QR code readers, the AMR can lift and transport a wide range of load carriers, making it easy to integrate into existing production and warehouse environments, said KUKA.

The KMP 1500P’s adaptive navigation allows autonomous path optimization in dynamic settings, while inductive charging enables round-the-clock operation. KUKA noted that its AI-based KUKA.AMR fleet-management software provides centralized control for improved safety and productivity.

For heavy-duty performance, the KMP 3000P can handle payloads of up to 3 tons with millimeter precision, said the company. With the same advanced safety provisions as the KMP 1500P, the robot is designed to operate safely alongside people while transporting heavy loads.

The KMP 3000P has an omnidirectional movement system to maneuver into tight spaces using a “crabwalk” motion for smooth lateral movement. It also has 3D cameras on all four sides to aid navigation, avoid obstacles, and protect the safety to people working alongside it.

KUKA says support is now available

KUKA Robotics plan to show its AMR portfolio at MODEX 2026, which will be on April 13 to 16. The company will be at Booth B15132 in Building ABC, Level 1 of the Georgia World Congress Center.

The booth will feature live demonstrations of several KUKA robots, including the KMP 250P, KMP 600P, KMP 1500P and KMP 3000P. The display will also include AMRs interacting with a KR QUANTEC PA palletizing robot.

Last month, KUKA announced its KR AGILUS ultra robot arms, which can handle payloads weighing 16 kg (35.2 lb.).

As with all the company’s automation offerings, KUKA said those shown at LogiMAT and MODEX 2026 are backed by its expert service and support for training, complete system engineering and simulation, readily available spare parts, robot refurbishment, and more. All of them are accessible through the my.KUKA.com site.

KUKA said it maintains corporate offices and production operations, along with integration partner facilities, throughout North America to provide responsive customer service and support.
