MiR made a handful of announcements at Automate this week. The company’s MiR1200 Pallet Jack made its U.S. debut, the company is adding new AI capabilities to its analytics software, and it’s now offering mobile cobots.
“With our full family of user-friendly AMRs, manufacturers and logistics managers can experience greater efficiency and flexibility for their logistics and material handling tasks, with a quick return on investment,” Jean-Pierre Hathout, president of MiR, said. “Not only will Automate visitors be able to see these AMRs in action, but they can experience the robotic collaborations with Universal Robots as well as the latest AI capabilities we’ve been working on.”
The MiR1200 Pallet Jack comes equipped with advanced AI pallet detection powered by NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin. MiR says this allows it to use 3D vision to identify pallets and then pick up and deliver pallets with high precision.
The company first introduced the MiR1200 Pallet jack at LogiMat in Germany in March. The company says this Pallet Jack integrates seamlessly into existing MiR autonomous mobile robot (AMR) fleets and interoperates with its deck load AMRs. This makes it ideal for large-scale enterprise customers who typically operate more complex workflows with larger fleets and multiple sites, the company says.
MiR teases new AI capabilities for analytics software
The company says its AMRs can navigate safely and smoothly among people and other transport equipment in dynamic environments, even on busy trade show floors. It equips all of its AMRs with sensors, 3D cameras, and laser scanning technology to ensure 360-degree vision for precise navigation and operations.
The company says its new AI-focused enhancements to MiR Insights, its cloud-based software platform, will enable fleet owners to track and analyze the operations of their robots and obtain actionable insights they can use to improve the robots’ performance. Additionally, it allows users to more easily find and engage with the data.
MiR is previewing the upcoming AI features at Automate:
- Customers can interact with MiR knowledge bases, even without knowing the exact database terms, to intuitively find the right information and speed up deployment and optimization processes.
- New features allow customers to chat with their data to conduct troubleshooting and optimization activities independently.
- Finally, customers can ask follow-up questions to get tailored answers that can deepen their understanding and enable improved decision-making.
Mobile Industrial Robots to offer mobile cobots
MiR’s open platform has enabled third parties to create top modules to be added to AMRs. This allows robots to perform different applications. Many of these modules now come from MiR partners through the MiR Go program.
For example, a mobile cobot from Enabled Robotics, comprising the MiR250 AMR and any collaborative robot arm from Universal Robots (UR), is now MiR Go Approved. This means it has been tested and approved by MiR and can be purchased directly from the company.
MiR says the mobile cobot offers a seamless connection between the MiR250 and UR’s cobot through a flexible modular platform. It also has the ability to adjust the size of the cobot arm to accommodate the required payload. Finally, it has an intuitive all-in-one interface, enabling efficient programming of both the AMR and the cobot arm.
“These new AI features to MiR’s analytic software create another real-world example of our new AI offerings, with MiR Insights leveraging the latest advancements in generative AI on top its data processing capabilities to empower customers to get more out of their MiR robots,” Ujjwal Kumar, president of Teradyne Robotics, said.
