Through its Storage Solutions Inc. subsidiary, Jungheinrich AG this week acquired Invar Systems, a specialist in warehouse and order fulfillment systems. Jungheinrich said the acquisition marks another strategic milestone in its expansion in North America, while enhancing its global footprint as well as its automation business.

“We are excited to join forces with Storage Solutions and Jungheinrich,” stated Ken Matson, president of Invar. “Our combined expertise and capabilities, as well as our shared commitment to quality, innovation, and customer-centricity, will enable us to accelerate innovation and deliver even greater benefits to our current and future customers.”

Founded in 2005, Invar said it focuses on companies seeking integrated warehouse design, project execution, automation software, and reliable after-sales service. The company added that it has experience in consulting, data analysis, simulation, and implementation.

Invar, which has offices in Atlanta and Erlanger, Ky., has a team of 50 specialists and has developed its own warehouse execution system (WES).

Storage Solutions to deliver customized automation

Westfield, Ind.-based Storage Solutions Inc. (SSI) includes warehouse and automation design experts who work with distribution and fulfillment operations throughout North America. The company said it provides equipment and tailored service directly to customers.

SSI asserted that its and Invar’s combined expertise will allow the combined entity to efficiently deliver scalable and customized automation. They said their focus on automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) will position Jungheinrich as a leading integrator in this segment and provide access to new capabilities and customers in the U.S. market.

Jungheinrich acquired Storage Solutions for $375 million in 2023, and the unit rebranded in March.

Invar part of Jungheinrich’s ‘Strategy 2030+’

Jungheinrich said its acquisition of Invar is another logical step in the implementation of its “Strategy 2030+,” which targets investments in automation and expanding its North American business.

“Automation is one of the fastest-growing segments in material handling, and mobile ASRS solutions are at the forefront of that growth,” said Dr. Lars Brzoska, chairman of board of management of Jungheinrich. “Therefore, the acquisition of Invar is an important strategic step to strengthen our U.S. automation platform and showcases a great example of how our U.S. subsidiary Storage Solutions brings our strategy 2030+ to life.”

As a leading provider of material handling systems, Jungheinrich said it has supported the development of sustainable products and solutions for material flows for more than 70 years. The family-owned business, which is listed on the German MDAX, added that it “is committed to creating the warehouse of the future.”

In the 2024 financial year, Jungheinrich and its workforce of about 21,000 employees generated revenue of €5.4 billion ($6.2 billion). The Hamburg, Germany-based company’s global network includes 12 production plants, plus service and sales companies in 42 countries.
