As manufacturers work toward the “smart factory,” they are implementing technologies including robotics. Samsung Electronics needed assistance pulling, carrying, lifting, and arranging heavy loads at its Thai Nguyen Factory, or SEVT. It recently deployed mobile robots from Phenikaa-X Joint Stock Co., a Hanoi, Vietnam-based provider of intelligent automation.

SEVT is the first Samsung Electronics factory to use Phenikaa-X’s autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in its production operations, claimed the company. It added that the AMR Pallet Mover systems optimize costs and improve efficiency.

The global robotics market could expand from $42.59 billion in 2024 to $79.87 billion by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.4%, according to Mordor Intelligence. It noted that Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing market.

In Vietnam, the industrial robot market could reach $309.8 million this year, as manufacturers accelerate the adoption of robots and other tools to enhance productivity and comply with sustainable development standards, predicted Statista. However, this digital transformation is not just a technological issue but also about understanding business and providing suitable systems for their business models.

AMR Pallet Mover designed for interoperability

Phenikaa-X said it designed the AMR Pallet Mover specifically for electronics, garment, and automotive parts manufacturers. The robot has a capacity of up to 1,000 kg (2,204.6 lb.).

The AMR Pallet Mover also conforms with the VDA 5050 standard and integrates with existing warehouse management systems (WMS) and other automation.

In addition, the product is equipped with the PNKX MMG management software to ensure effective communication between humans and robots. SEVT is using this software.

The AMR Pallet Mover is Vietnam’s first robot designed according to the ISO 3691-4 safety standard, said Phenikaa-X. It has three layers of protection: an AI camera for human and object detection, a lidar safety sensor at PL-d level, and a collision sensor.

“By mastering core technology, Phenikaa-X’s robots can be customized to meet different requirements and highly integrated with previously existing systems,” stated Lê Anh Sơn, general Director of Phenikaa-X. “This is one of the company’s unique competitive advantages in the domestic market.”

“Additionally, with the advantage of being headquartered in Vietnam, Phenikaa-X ensures continuous and effective operation of automated robot systems in factories, minimizing downtime for maintenance/issues — a key factor helping businesses optimize costs, enhance productivity, and achieve sustainable development goals,” he said.

Samsung Electronics use is a milestone for Phenikaa-X

Phenikaa Group spun out its research and development activities into Phenikaa-X Joint Stock Co. in October 2020. The R&D team focuses on autonomous vehicle technology, manufacturing, and commercializing robots and drones.

The company touted milestones including successful registration of several patents related to robots and autonomous buses in 2020, successful implementation of uncrewed vehicle technology, high-resolution maps, and various autonomous robots.

Not only does SEVT’s implementation of the AMR Pallet Mover confirm Phenikaa-X’s capabilities as a robotics pioneer in Vietnam. It also demonstrates the “Made in Vietnam” strategy to support manufacturers as they modernize, said the company.

Phenikaa-X also said it is developing technology with leading domestic and international corporations.
