
Logic Robotics this week announced the Octopus, an overhead industrial robot that it said replaces static, floor-bound equipment with a ceiling-mounted system for agile case handling. Suspended above existing workflows, Octopus can autonomously pick, lift, and transfers cased goods without consuming aisle space, said the company.
Waltham, Mass.-based Logic said the Octopus allows warehouses and logistics hubs to reclaim the floor for storage density, people, and flow. Founded in 2019, the company claimed that it unifies warehouse management, transportation, robotics, and data aggregation into a single control layer that directly orchestrates and executes the movement of goods across facilities and modes.
“Instead of fragmented systems stitched together through manual coordination, Logic transforms warehouses, vehicles, docks, and yards into nodes in a continuous, programmable network where goods move without interruption and transportation is dynamically orchestrated at the level of the cargo itself,” it said.
By integrating execution, control, and data into one system, Logic said it can deliver a more scalable, adaptive, and intelligent foundation for global movement.
Octopus is designed to be configurable
Logic said that is designed Octopus as a configurable, multi-arm platform that can work with any combination of suction cups, clamps, grippers, and specialized end effectors. Each arm operates independently and can be choreographed to handle different SKUs, package sizes, and packaging types in parallel. The company said this enables its goods-to-robot system to perform multiple picks and placements at once across mixed loads.
“Because the tools are all live simultaneously, the robot does not have to stop for mechanical changeovers, which removes a major source of idle time and enables consistently high throughput,” said Logic.
Octopus is designed to integrate into both existing and new facilities, ranging from legacy distribution centers to micro-fulfillment centers. Logic said it can customize the system on demand to accommodate facility layouts.
By attaching to overhead structure, Octopus turns overhead volume into productive space rather than occupying area on the floor, the company said. The high-speed gantry system can serve dock doors, inspection points, storage zones, or cross-dock lanes, it added.
“Static loading areas become intelligent interaction hubs, where goods arrive, are automatically handled, and then move directly to their next location without manual repalletizing or intermediate staging,” said Logic.
Logic Pallets provide workflow flexibility
Octopus pairs with Logic Pallets “to turn every loading zone into a smart automation cell,” said Logic. The lifting system is coordinated with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that transport and position loads under it.
Instead of driving pallets to different tools or asking a single robot to adapt mechanically to every task, Logic Pallets can navigate to the right Octopus arm based on the needs of each item, order, or workflow. “The result is a true goods-to-robot paradigm, where the mobile platform handles movement and positioning while the overhead system focuses on fast, precise picking, lifting, and inspection,” said the company.
The Logic Interface Network (LINK) unifies data from robot arms, Logic Pallets, sensors, and vision systems into a single decision layer. LINK uses spatial awareness of Octopus, weight data from Logic Pallets, images, and product codes to validate every pick and placement in real time, cross-referencing each move against a centralized item master.
As goods progress from receiving to storage and from staging to outbound loading, Logic said its system continuously confirms what has moved, where it is, and how it should be handled next. This maintains accuracy and traceability while keeping the operation in motion.
Octopus and Logic Pallets working together under one operating system supports lifting, sorting, staging, and transferring inventory across every node of the supply chain, said Logic. The same overhead robot that builds mixed pallets for outbound orders can also perform dock-side inspection, support cross-dock transfers, or feed micro-fulfillment flows without reconfiguring the floor, it added.
By combining high-speed, multi-arm overhead robotics with intelligent, self-positioning pallets and a unified control layer, Logic said it offers space-efficient automation, giving warehouses capabilities for the future.
